Who it suits
- You want to start with Tachyon using one object you can move around the house.
- You like small home routines, such as a water jug that always stands in the same spot.
- You already know Tachyon and want the original from the manufacturer.
You fill a jug with water in the morning and set it down on the kitchen counter. Underneath it there's no coaster, just a thin round disk with a printed label that lives in that spot permanently. That's how a lot of long-time Tachyon users keep their silica disk. It's the brand's best-known product, and it's where most people start.
What it is
The silica disk is a thin silica wafer, 7.5 cm across. Think of a drinks coaster or a large saucer and you have the size about right. Silica is brittle, so the disk is sealed in a sturdy printed laminate. The laminate protects it, and if the disk ever cracks, it holds the pieces together. According to the manufacturer, a cracked disk shouldn't be peeled or opened, and it keeps working as before.
The disks are made by Advanced Tachyon Technologies, a US company. Tachyon says the silica was originally developed for the high-tech industry, and that each disk goes through the company's own process, which it calls tachyonization. What the company means by that is covered in What is a tachyon.
The disk is one-sided. The side the manufacturer considers active is printed with "Energy flows out this side". Tachyon compares it to a beam of light coming out of a lamp, and says the field of a 7.5 cm disk reaches about 4.5 meters. So when you stick it down, it matters which way it faces: label towards whatever you want the disk to work on.
How people use it
You attach the disk with ordinary sticky tape, and you can move it whenever you like. Planet Tachyon's own materials show these spots.
Water. Stand a jug or bottle on the disk, label side up. Tachyon says four liters of water need about five hours, and people then drink it or use it for houseplants. Anyone who keeps a disk in the kitchen tends to leave it there for good, so the jug always has its place.
Fuse box and monitor. Open the fuse box and tape the disk to the inside of the door. The manufacturer suggests the disk should cover most of the breakers, so people with a larger fuse box often go for the 10 or 15 cm version, or a set of three. The second favorite spot is the back of a monitor or laptop, even when there's already a disk on the fuse box. Tachyon describes the disk as a way to bring balance and coherent energy into the home.
Fridge. Tape the disk to the bottom of the fridge, under the shelf with the food. Tachyon says everything above the disk gets energized. People do the same with herbs, fruit, or vegetables in a bowl.
Sleep. Stick the disk on the wall or the headboard. The manufacturer says the best spot is about 15 cm above or below head height, so the energy passes around the body. Tachyon also mentions that people with a disk by the bed find it easier to remember their dreams in the morning.
Garden. In spring, people push one into the soil at the start of a row of vegetables or flowers.
The manufacturer doesn't recommend placing the disk directly on skin. If you want to wear it, tape it to a T-shirt or vest with paper tape.
Who it suits
The silica disk makes a good first piece, because you can move it around and see where you like it best. It suits people who enjoy a simple home routine, like water that stands in its spot or a disk by the bed. It also makes a good gift for someone who already knows Tachyon and wants the original from the manufacturer.
If you're after something smaller for your phone or wallet, have a look at the ULTRA Phone Disk. All sizes are in the Disks category.
Choosing a size
The manufacturer offers three diameters. The 7.5 cm disk is the smallest and fits easily under a jug, on a monitor, or in a small fuse box. The 10 and 15 cm versions are for larger surfaces, such as a fuse box with two rows of breakers. If you want to cover several spots at once, the manufacturer also sells sets of three. Before you order, check our coupon and the shipping information.
Care
Wipe the disk with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Don't stick it anywhere it might bend, and don't peel off the laminate, even if the disk cracks. There's more in the guide Caring for silica disks.
