How to use a Tachyon disk: 7 ways at home
Under the water jug, by the bed, in the fridge, with your plants, on the desk, on your phone and in your palm during meditation. Seven places people keep silica disks and micro disks, and what Tachyon says about each.

The silica disk arrives in an envelope and spends its first evening on the kitchen table. It's flat, round, about the size of a drinks coaster, and you're wondering where it should live. Under the water? By the bed? On your phone? The good news is that you can move it as often as you like, because it attaches with ordinary tape. Here are seven places the manufacturer itself shows, and where long-time Tachyon users tend to keep their disks.
Two things apply everywhere. The silica disk is one-sided, and its active side is printed "Energy flows out this side". Tachyon compares it to light coming out of a lamp in one direction, and says the field of a 7.5 cm disk reaches about 4.5 metres. So turn the print towards whatever you want the disk to work on. The 24 mm micro disk is double-sided, so with that one you don't need to think about it.
1. Under the water jug
This is the classic, and where most people start. Stand a jug, carafe or bottle on the disk, print side up, as you would on a coaster. Tachyon says four litres of water need about five hours, and people then drink it or use it for their houseplants. Anyone who keeps a disk in the kitchen tends to leave it there for good, so the jug always has its place in the morning.
2. By the bed
Tape the disk to the wall or the headboard. The manufacturer says the best spot is about 15 cm above or below head height, so the energy passes around the body, and adds that people with a disk by the bed find it easier to remember their dreams. If you'd like more than one disk around your sleep, have a look at the Sleep and pads category.
3. In the fridge and with the fruit
Tape the disk to the bottom of the fridge, under the shelf with the food. Tachyon says everything above the disk gets energised. Outside the fridge, people put one under the fruit bowl on the table or under a pot of herbs on the windowsill. Wipe it whenever it gets damp; there's more on that in Caring for silica disks.
4. With plants and in the garden
A disk fits under the pot of a favourite houseplant just as it fits under a jug. In spring, people push one into the soil at the start of a row of vegetables or flowers. The manufacturer shows disks in the garden in its own materials, and water that has stood on a disk does for watering too.
5. On the desk
At a desk, the most common spot is the back of a monitor or laptop. Tachyon describes the disk as a way to bring balance and coherent energy into the home, and the desk is where many people spend most of their day. If you have a bigger setup, the 10 or 15 cm disks cover a wider surface.
6. On your phone and in your wallet
A full-size disk is too big for a phone, so the manufacturer makes the 24 mm micro disk, a small double-sided wafer about the size of a two-euro coin. Stick it to the back of your phone or inside a hard case with double-sided tape, and it goes wherever you go. Others keep it in a wallet or a pocket. More for the phone and the car is in the Phone and car category.
7. In your palm during meditation
The 35 mm micro disk, about the size of a jam jar lid, suits this one. People hold it in their palm in the evening, sit or lie down, and simply breathe for a few minutes. It's a small ritual, a bit like a cup of tea before bed, with a clear start and finish. Afterwards the disk goes back on the bedside table, and some tape it to a T-shirt the next morning. For a larger meditation tool, see the Meditation category.
When you want to cover a whole room
A disk is like a desk lamp: it shines where you point it. For a whole space, Tachyon makes Sun Spots, crystals you place in a room. The smallest is the Sun Spot Mini. And if you already know you want a disk in the kitchen, one in the bedroom and one on your phone, the kit builder works out whether single pieces or a ready-made set comes out cheaper.
Choosing your first disk
The 7.5 cm silica disk is a good first piece. Planet Tachyon sold it for $51.61 (checked 28 October 2026), and it fits under a jug or on a monitor, so you can try every spot in this guide with it. The full range of sizes, from micro disks to the 15 cm ULTRA disk, is in the Disks category, and you can line them up side by side in the comparison. If you're giving a disk to someone who hasn't tried Tachyon yet, send them a link to this guide with it. They'll move it between the kitchen and the bedroom for the first few days anyway, until they find the spot that suits them, and seven ideas save a lot of searching. More ideas by budget are in the gift finder.
Questions on this topic
- Is one disk enough to start with?
- Yes. Most people begin with a single 7.5 cm silica disk and move it around until they find the spot they want to keep it in. The second piece usually goes wherever they miss it most, often the phone or the bed.
- Which way should the disk face?
- A one-sided silica disk goes with the "Energy flows out this side" print facing whatever you're using it with, for example up towards a jug. The double-sided 24 mm micro disk can go on either way up.
- How long should water stand on the disk?
- Tachyon says four litres need about five hours. A glass or bottle usually sits there over a meal or overnight.
- Can I wear a disk against my skin?
- The manufacturer doesn't recommend it. If you'd like to keep one on you, tape it to a T-shirt with paper tape or carry it in a pocket or wallet.
